Appropriate Adult Scheme Models (July 2016)
Summary:
This resource provides information on the different models of appropriate adult schemes.
Description:
All children and young people aged 10 – 17 who the police arrest or interview as a voluntary attender should have an appropriate adult present. This is defined in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
Each Youth Offending Team has a legal duty to provide appropriate adults for all those who need them within the geographical area they cover.
There are a range of models that are available to Youth Offending Teams when commissioning an appropriate adult scheme. This resource provides information on the different models available, the key elements of each and factors to take into consideration when deciding which to use. It also provides examples of some of the YOTs that use the identified models.
