The Centre for Justice Innovation have published children and young people- voices on youth diversion and disparity (December 2022). A qualitative study was conducted to explore the experiences in relation to ethnicity of 11 children and young people currently in the youth justice system.
The report explores the experiences of children and young people currently in the youth justice system, and how they perceive interactions with the police, solicitors and youth justice services to have been influenced by their ethnic background.
This research follows on from previous project equal diversion? racial disproportionality in youth diversion (March 2021), which explores the unequal playing field that exists for children in the youth justice system, and their participation in diversion schemes.
