Description:
Access to yearly updated youth justice related statistical data including offending, reoffending, first time entrants and knife and offensive weapon sentencing statistics published by the Ministry of Justice.
Youth Justice Statistics:
The Youth Justice Statistics is an annual bulletin published by the Youth Justice Board and Ministry of Justice at the end of January. It collects detailed data on the youth justice system, including the number and demographics of children (10-17) in the youth justice system, the offences they committed, the outcomes they received, and trends over time.
Data is drawn together from various sources, including the Home Office, Ministry of Justice, Youth Custody Service, youth justice services and youth secure estate providers.
A guide to youth justice statistics is published alongside the bulletin to provide further information on the data used. The bulletin is also accompanied by a range of supplementary tables, local level pivot tables, infographics, and maps.
For further information or feedback on any aspect of the Youth Justice Statistics, please contact the YJB’s Information and Analysis Team.
Reoffending Statistics:
The Reoffending Statistics are published quarterly by the Ministry of Justice. The statistics are produced from data taken from the Police National Computer (PNC), and therefore may not match data within youth justice services Case Management Systems. The publication provides statistics on proven reoffending for both adult and children, in both yearly and quarterly cohorts.
These statistics include reoffending rate (proportion of offenders who reoffended) and reoffending frequency (number of reoffences per reoffender). Data tools, including data at geographical (Local Authority and youth justice service) level, support the release.
For further information, please contact the MoJ's Reoffending Statistics Team.
First Time Entrants Statistics:
These statistics are included as part of the Criminal Justice Statistics quarterly, published by the Ministry of Justice Criminal Histories Team. The statistics are produced from data taken from the Police National Computer, and therefore may not match data within youth justice services Case Management Systems. A First Time Entrants Data Tool is provided, enabling breakdowns by gender, age group, ethnicity, police force area, offence class, and disposal type/category.
For further information, please contact the MoJ’s Criminal Histories Team.
Knife and Offensive Weapon Sentencing Statistics:
The Knife and Offensive Weapon Sentencing Statistics are published quarterly by the Ministry of Justice Sentencing Statistics Team. They describe trends in the number of offenders receiving cautions and convictions for possession of a knife or offensive weapon, including threatening offences. The data includes age, offence type, police force area, offender history, and average custodial length for those sent to immediate custody.
For further information, please contact the MoJ’s Sentencing Statistics Team.
