‘Digital Me’ part 2 – An animated video on restorative justice by Gateshead Youth Justice Service
Summary:
An animated video created by Gateshead Youth Justice Service and Digital Voice for Communities, a non-profit organisation which works with people of all ages and abilities to deliver digital inclusion projects. The video was co-produced and scripted by case workers, victim and children on the theme of restorative justice and serious violence.
Description:
‘One punch’ is the second in the Digital Me video series, which is a collaboration between Gateshead Youth Justice Service and Digital Voice for Communities. This video explores restorative justice and serious violence and has been scripted, animated and co-produced with children. It uses animation to anonymise them, while still ensuring their voices and experiences are heard. The video allowed them to explore their feelings and reflect on their experiences of the youth justice service and what helped them.
Outcomes:
The video has been shared across Gateshead Children’s Social Care, and is used as a training tool and resource for children likely to become involved with the youth justice system. It has also been shared externally with partners and other services so other children, victims and the general public can see the positive impact Gateshead Youth Justice Service has on children. The victim in the film, his mother and the Victim Liaison Officer also attended a Management Board meeting where the video was shown, which was hugely impactful. Gateshead have planned further video projects in the near future.
