Aims:

Description:
A review of practice in YOTs in Wales relating to the screening of speech language and communication needs (SLCN), how identified needs are met, how YOTs and others deliver related services, identification of good practice and the training and support YOT staff receive to recognise needs and what this enables them to do. The practice issues that were explored were divided into six thematic areas:
- Definition and assessment of SLCNs;
- Different approaches and strategies used by YOTs to address the needs of their service users;
- Embedded services versus access to external specialists;
- Continuity of service and access to support for SLCNs outside/beyond youth justice;
- The impact of SLCNs on wider engagement with intervention;
- Effective evaluation of outcomes.
