Description:
The Support into Education and Learning evaluation describes a project that was set up to assist young people in the youth justice system to get into or remain engaged with education and learning. It was funded by the Welsh Government through the European Social Fund and was operational from January 2010 to March 2013. Twelve youth offending services in Wales participated in it.
The activities included:
- Engaging with and motivating young people to achieve their potential (including coaching and goal setting);
- Increasing confidence and self-esteem so that young people have the necessary motivation to progress into further learning and employment;
- Developing the social and personal skills of young people to ensure they are fully equipped to enter and remain in further learning, training or work opportunities;
- Identifying and brokering education, learning and employment opportunities for young people;
- Providing a ‘mentoring role’ to the young person to ensure they maintain their further learning, training or work placement.
