Summary

County Lines Pathfinder have shared the final evaluation of their Families Learning About Thinking Skills Online Intervention for children potentially affected by criminal exploitation, including through county lines.

Description

County Lines Pathfinder have shared their Families Learning About Thinking Skills (FLATS) and final evaluation by Traverse.

The Families Learning About Thinking Skills is an intensive intervention programme, run over 16-weeks with children that were deemed to be impacted by criminal exploitation, including county lines. The programme comprised of:

  • Weekly 2-hour group sessions for children
  • Weekly 1:1 sessions for children
  • Access to facilitators outside of these sessions (e.g. through WhatsApp) for support with applying skills in ‘real life’ situations.
  • On-going practical and emotional support to caregivers, to address their own needs and/or barriers which might prevent them from supporting their child.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, FLATS was piloted online with a small group of children believed to be at risk of criminal exploitation, between October 2020 and March 2021.

A review of digital and online interventions was undertaken to help inform the strategy for the programme. Delivering FLATS online produced a range of challenges for practitioners, young people and caregivers alike to this end, County Lines Pathfinder have produced a practitioner hints and tips on running on-line group work with children which may be of support.
