Girls Empowerment Team programme at Birmingham Children’s Trust
Summary:
Birmingham Children’s Trust is providing a holistic tailormade support programme to girls who are at risk of offending, or have offended. The Girls Empowerment Team (GET) is a bespoke service for girls which uses a trauma-informed approach to respond to the specific needs and vulnerabilities of girls involved in the youth justice system.
Through taking a unique and bespoke approach, the programme aims to support girls to lead crime-free lives, contribute positively to society and divert them from re-offending.
Description:
The team allow girls to self-direct their support using an intervention sheet, which enables girls to choose interventions they want to discuss. These include staying safe, drugs and alcohol and sexual exploitation. Access the GET Butterfly Intervention Sheet and the Interventions Objectives Sheet.
The team also offers activities, with the support of local social enterprises, to encourage engagement, and build trust and self-belief. Past activities have included scuba diving, go-cart racing and entrepreneurship. Read this case study to find out more.
This programme is currently funded by the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner as part of partnership funding arrangements.
