Gypsy, Roma and Traveller staff training – West Berkshire youth justice service (October 2021)

Summary:

West Berkshire youth justice service have shared their staff training aimed at raising awareness of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture. 

Description:

West Berkshire youth justice service has two Gypsy, Roma and Traveller sites within its’ geographical area, with some of those children coming into contact with the youth justice system.

To ensure staff are able to work effectively with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller children, they have developed and provide training for all staff to raise awareness of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture. 

As part of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month, West Berkshire, have also developed a short quiz  (with answers) that can be used in team meetings to support raising awareness.  The training has been a positive step toward supporting and building good relationships with families from a Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community.

West Berkshire youth justice service have also created a short video describing the work carried out.
