Joint Enterprise Educational Resource
Summary:
Educational Resource for young people to encourage discussion around personal responsibility, gangs, carrying knives, joint enterprise and violence.
Description:
The Educational Resource ‘Joseph’s Story’ is based on the murder of 16-year old Joseph Lappin who was attacked in Liverpool by a group of young people and fatally stabbed. All those involved in the attack were initially charged with murder under the law of Joint Enterprise.
This DVD was developed in partnership with Liverpool Citysafe and Merseyside Police and produced with Dr. Rachel England and Liverpool Youth Offending Service. The DVD itself documents some of the facts in the case of Joseph- murder and there is an accompanying professional- manual prompts the facilitator with discussion points and includes worksheets to be completed by the young people throughout the video. The manual also explores ‘A Different Ending…’ – what might have happened if someone in the group had acted different and the potential outcome/s.
The Resource can be used with young people to encourage discussion around personal responsibility, gangs, carrying knives, joint enterprise and violence.
Implanting the Practice:
- The session can be run as a group or 1:1 session
- The programme is flexible enough that if only particular sections are appropriate for a young person that is acceptable
- Staff do not require formal training but they will need to be familiar with the content of the DVD and worksheets.
- A short trailer featuring extracts from the DVD can also be viewed on YouTube Channel
