Description:
The Adolescent and Children- Trust Fostering (TACT Fostering) have collaborated with care experienced children and young people, local authorities and organisations to create Language That Cares. It aims to provide professionals with a glossary of words and terms that aims to change the way professionals talk about and with children in care.
The Family Justice Young People- Board have worked with Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) to help create Mind Your Language. It aims to show clear and jargon free language examples for when speaking to or writing about children and young people. It encourages the use of plain English, with simple explanations to help children and families.
Implementing the practice:
• Nottinghamshire use the documents to assist youth justice practitioners to reflect on their practice and language used.
• Nottinghamshire have also suggested that the attached could be used across partnerships to agree a common language/terms that are more strengths based.
