Leicester City’s Children’s Justice Review Panel
Summary:
Leicester City’s Children and Young People’s Justice Service has developed the Children’s Justice Review Panel to provide a multi-agency proactive response to children who are on the cusp of entering the youth justice system and those already involved with youth justice service, who regularly receive police attention for their behaviour.
Description:
During the panel, seconded police colleagues share intelligence with service managers at weekly meetings about children coming into contact with the police. These meetings are themed each week to enable a targeted response, for example focusing on geographical areas to identify and respond to any emerging anti-social behaviour hotspots.
If children who are not known to the service are coming to the attention of the police, they are proactively offered a prevention service. For those that are known to the service, this process enables for additional oversight and scrutiny of plans and interventions that are in place, and a review of services to ensure they are meeting the needs of the children.
