Partnership working guidance from Derby City Council

Summary:

Derby Youth Justice Service has shared guidance developed in consultation with Derby Early Help & Children’s Social Care Services, which sets out how both services co-ordinate and streamline meetings to manage children’s safety to others and any wellbeing concerns.

Description:

Many children receive support from both Early Help & Children’s Social Care and Youth Justice Services, which can result in multiple meetings being held under separate processes. This can cause unnecessary duplication and the potential for important information to be mentioned at one meeting but missed at another.

Derby Council has set up a partnership working process which outlines clear expectations for each organisation and ensures risk, safety and wellbeing concerns are discussed by professionals across both services.

While, in theory, there is no theme that cannot be addressed through this guidance, Derby City Council have chosen to make Looked-After Children (LAC) reviews and Team Around the Family meetings exempt. As a result, this guidance primarily applies to the themes of safeguarding, wellbeing, care experienced children, exploitation and risk management.

Feedback on this process has been overwhelmingly positive. There has been improved attendance and engagement, time-saving efficiencies and more effective sharing of specific expertise to inform management, planning and build relationships between services.
