Presentation from Swansea Youth Justice Service on its systems review
Summary:
Swansea youth justice service conducted a comprehensive systems review to ensure it effectively meets the needs of the children, families and victims it supports by providing an efficient and supportive service. It has shared a presentation on this review which was delivered at the Hwb Doeth Training event in March 2024.
Description:
The systems review of Swansea YJS aimed to prioritise effective delivery at every stage of a child’s journey through the service, with the overarching objective to allocate more practitioner time towards direct engagement with children, in turn improving outcomes and supporting them to pursue their goals.
The process involved using ‘change thinking’ and directly consulting with children, partner agencies and staff to better understand what children at the service wanted and needed. The presentation also explores how Swansea is putting this learning into practice and its outcomes so far.
Outcomes:
Since the start of the review, over 40 prevention consultations have been completed with children and the new process is supporting the team to better identify appropriate interventions for children at the right time. The service will gather ongoing feedback from children, parents and referrers to understand if the project has achieved its objectives.
