Principles and Approaches Underpinning Youth Justice Practice – Portsmouth Youth Justice Service
Summary:
Portsmouth Youth Justice Service (YJS) has developed a document which lays out the principles and approaches that underpin youth justice practice at the service.
Description:

Portsmouth YJS’s ‘Introduction to Principles and Approaches Underpinning Youth Justice Practice’ draws together a range of practice, theories, models and approaches into one easy to understand document. The document includes links to other resources to support practitioners to explore topics in more detail, as well as helpful explanations of each of the principles.
The document has been used to support the development of effective practice at Portsmouth YJS and to help provide a theoretical framework that underpins work with children in the city. The resource provides information on various principles, including Child First, relationship based practice, identity, intersectionality and the social graces. It builds on evidence, approaches and theories to make them accessible for those working within the youth justice system.
