Reducing offending and delivering positive outcomes
We’ve published our Business Plan for 2024-25, outlining our commitment to an evidence-based, Child First youth justice system. This plan aligns with the missions of the newly elected government and translates our Strategic Plan for 2024-27 into actionable steps for the coming year.
Our three strategic objectives are:
- Support local youth justice services to enhance their effectiveness.
- Address disparities in the youth justice system to ensure fairness.
- Promote the Child First framework by providing policy advice and support.
The Business Plan details how we will continue to fulfil our statutory functions while prioritising the areas we believe will make the biggest difference for children. It also covers how we will use the resources that have been allocated to us, ensuring efficient and effective use of funds.
We are ambitious in our aim to lead improvements across the youth justice system, monitor and champion local partnerships, share effective practice and provide support where improvements are needed. Our use of research to make data-informed strategic and financial decisions is strengthened, and our evidence will inform ministers, the wider youth justice system and policy development.
But we can’t do this alone. Youth justice is locally based, has a strong sense of community and is led by compassionate and talented professionals who prioritise children. Children, as well as families and victims of crime, should be active participants in youth justice. By listening to them, we can better understand their experience, their identity, and their place in the community. Collaboration and participation underpin effective youth justice work.
As an organisation we value our partnerships across local authorities, police, courts, probation, education, health services and charities. Thank you for continuing to work with us in our shared vision for a Child First youth justice system, contributing to safer communities with fewer victims.
