Southampton Resettlement Partnership Agreement

Summary:

Youth Justice Strategic Plan from Southampton YOS.

Description:

The Southampton Resettlement Partnership Agreement, is a local partnership arrangement to respond to the often complex needs of young people leaving custody in Southampton, in order to reduce offending risks and improve outcomes for this group of young people.

The development of the agreement promotes communication between the YOS and different parts of the local authority, such as housing. The agreement, further provides clarity regarding the roles and responsibilities of agencies supporting the resettlement of young people

Implementing the Practice:

  • Southampton found that management support across all the agencies involved was key to starting a meaningful discussion around local responses to the needs of young people leaving custody.
  • Southampton found that developing a shared understanding of remit, priorities, and operational processes and requirements for all the partners was essential to gaining consensus. However, this is was slow process.
  • Southampton further consulted partners regarding the partnership agreement before the final draft was completed and signed off.
