Surrey YJS’s Side by Side programme
Summary:
The Side by Side Programme is funded by the Surrey Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner (OPCC) and delivered by Surrey Youth Justice Service. The programme supports children who have been victims of crime.
Description:
To reduce the likelihood of child victims of crime going on to offend, the Side by Side programme aims to form supportive relationships with victims and their families, where the child who has offended is open for interventions with Surrey YJS.
Child victims are already offered restorative approaches at Surrey, but there are currently limited provisions for the holistic support they often require in addition. The Side by Side programme gives children the opportunity to work through their trauma, providing holistic, dynamic support linking all agencies and ensuring the child victim and their family feel heard and at the centre of the work.
Has the practice been evaluated?
An evaluation tool has been developed and is shared with families at the end of the support to capture any their feedback. This feedback is collated and analysed to inform practice going forward.
