The Believe Project from Newport Youth Justice Service
Summary:
Newport Youth Justice Service works in partnership with local agencies to provide an impressive range of services to support children and raise their awareness and understanding of risky behaviours.
Description:
The Believe project runs interventions which include group sessions for a range of needs such as knife crime, exploitation, attitudes to police, substance misuse, and antisocial behaviour. Specific strengths-based projects promote children spending time in the outdoors, engaging in constructive activities, and developing confidence and self-identity, for example through the Keep Wales Tidy project.
The use of these activities for reparation ensures that children are developing skills while engaging in meaningful work in their communities. The interventions are accredited and children can gain Youth Achievement Awards (YAA).
Believe has two main levels of intervention:
- A “low level” for prevention cases.
- A “high level” library of different group interventions to support case managers with their interventions to assist with meeting the needs of the child.
