Trauma-informed Practice, Contextualised Safeguarding and Transitional Safeguarding – The Innovate Project (updated April 2022)
Summary: | Link to the Innovate project, which looks at addressing extra-familial risk and harm including child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, peer-on-peer harm, gang affiliation, and serious youth violence. |
Description:
The Innovate Project is a four-year research study funded at £1.9million by the Economic and Social Research Council (one of the UK research councils), which begun in 2019.
The project is working with six sites across the UK to explore how social care and related safeguarding agencies are innovating to address the extra-familial risks and harm that children and young people may encounter and experience beyond the family home (including online) – these include child sexual exploitation, County Lines criminal exploitation, peer-on-peer harm, gang affiliation, and serious youth violence.
The Project aims to learn more about both what helps or hinders innovation in social care, and whether three promising approaches; trauma-informed practice, contextual safeguarding, and transitional safeguarding – offer particularly helpful frameworks for addressing these risks.
