The Wales Violence Reduction Unit was established in 2019 through the Home Office Violence Reduction Unit fund. It is a partnership between the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, Public Health Wales, and South Wales Police.

The Violence Prevention Unit, together with Peer Action Collective Cymru, has a vision to end violence among children and young adults in Wales. Collectively they have developed Wales Without Violence: A Shared Framework for Preventing Violence among Children and Young People.

Now the VPU has developed a toolkit: The ‘Engaging Men and Boys in Violence Prevention’. It brings together academic evidence and professional expertise to support the development of inclusive, accessible and engaging violence prevention programmes for men and boys.

At this stage, the toolkit consists of two reports; the first key findings from the ‘Test and Learn’ projects in Wales, and the second a review of programmes in Wales. There is also an infographic which provides practical approaches to engage men and boys in violence prevention.

This toolkit forms part of the implementation of the Wales Without Violence Framework, a whole system approach to develop primary prevention and early intervention strategies to end violence among children and young adults. The Violence Reduction Unit intends to build on this evidence-informed toolkit.
