Restorative Options Leaflet and Feedback Form for Victims – Bristol Youth offending Team (2018)

Summary: Bristol youth offending service have shared material provided to victim/s that gives them an overview of restorative options available to them.

Bristol youth offending service have shared their leaflet and feedback form that is provided to all victims.  The leaflet provides an overview of the restorative justice options that may be available to victims and the feedback form provides the victim/s with an opportunity to give the service feedback.

Victims are contacted by letter, which includes the leaflet and information about restorative justice options, following the Order being made at Court. Within 10 working days this is followed up by a telephone call with an offer of a home visit from the youth justice service victim officer and the victim support worker from Victim Support.

Bristol youth offending team have made a decision to only invite victims to the initial Referral Order panel if they are the parent/carer and encourage them to bring a supporter and ensure the child has a supporter. The motivation for this, is due to the initial panel meeting containing lots of information about the child’s life. Any other victims that want to meet the children face to face, are offered a separate restorative meeting.

Implementing the Practice:

  • Bristol youth offending team have a service level agreement with Victim Support, which supports the partnership work.
