Description

Part of the Prevention and Diversion Project, funded by the National Probation Service (NPS) and jointly commissioned with YJB and Association of YOT Managers (AYM), was to develop a shared definition of prevention and diversion.

Following consultation with various stakeholders, definitions for prevention and diversion have been created in alignment with existing definitions where suitable. Some terminology may be slightly different to reflect the context of services for children.

These definitions were written to support Youth Justice Services (YJS), YJS Management Boards and strategic partners in understanding, identifying and planning support for children. These definitions will help improve understanding and evaluation of prevention and diversion work.
